BMJ guideline recommends against routine PSA screening for prostate cancer

A BMJ clinical practice guideline issued a weak recommendation against PSA-based prostate cancer screening, based on systematic review evidence that screening provides a small absolute reduction in mortality while causing substantial overdiagnosis and overtreatment. The guideline emphasises shared decision-making for men who wish to be screened. It remains a key reference for laboratories offering PSA testing and clinicians interpreting results.
