Citrate Anticoagulant Improves Sensitivity of Borrelia burgdorferi Blood Culture

This brief report demonstrates that citrate anticoagulant significantly improves the sensitivity of plasma culture for Borreliella burgdorferi compared to standard methods. The finding has practical implications for improving the notoriously difficult laboratory diagnosis of Lyme disease, where direct culture from blood remains challenging due to low spirochete burden.
